With the commencement of Austin City Limits Music Festival comes the opportunity for many attendees to finally showcase their long-anticipated festival fashion. Whether you already have your outfits packed and prepped or you’re just beginning to plan, these tips will help you dance the night away in comfort and style.

Tops

Although off-the-shoulder tops have become a staple piece in many girls’ closets, it might be best to leave them on the hanger. They’re cute but tend to restrict arm movement, which may not be convenient for dancing. Try wearing a cropped camisole, graphic tee or breezy blouse to remain cool in the congested festival crowd.

Bottoms

Denim shorts are an unspoken must-have for festival goers, but if you’re feeling tired of the usual, a denim or corduroy skirt is a viable alternative. For a look that will keep your legs covered from the infamous Zilker Park mud without making you overheated, wear a pair of loose-fit jeans or a patterned maxi skirt.

One-pieces

A romper or bodysuit could be just the thing for attendees looking to pack lightly or stay fashion forward with minimal effort. Bodysuits are extremely handy for those wanting a “tucked in” look without the worry of shirts falling out of their waistbands while jumping around. Rompers are another alternative perfect for those with a more low-maintenance fashion sense.

Shoes

While sandals go well with festival outfits, they aren’t the most practical option when it comes to traversing around a muddy park. Invest in a pair of sturdy boots, sneakers or closed-toe shoes instead. For the shorter girls out there, look for a pair with a platform to overlook the sea of heads around you. The sandals might be missed, but your clean and comfortable feet will thank you at the end of the night.

Hair

Braids are a popular option at festivals and for good reason — they are a simple way to keep hair out of the way. More daring attendees may want to try space buns. They’re trendy, functional and totally stellar. Anyone looking to just leave their locks down should plan ahead and bring an extra hair tie with them. Nothing is worse than having hair stuck to your neck in the humid Texas heat.

Accessories

A statement necklace, suede wrap choker or layered bangles are the perfect way to spice up any festival outfit. Bring a floppy hat or stylish shades to protect your eyes and face from harsh UV rays. With bags, try to avoid bringing anything too big and bulky. Small backpacks and fanny packs are convenient ways to bring your essentials without taking up too much space in the tight crowds.

Though these tips are recommended, don’t take fashion too seriously. Have fun experimenting with your festival style, and at the end of the day, wear what you feel most comfortable in.
