A Capital Metro bus driver ran a red light and hit a student today during the biannual foam sword party, an event put on by the Architecture Student Council.
Austin Police Department officials said a student, who was later identified as Nick Engmann, was hit by the bus at approximately 12:48 p.m. while crossing the street during the event. Engmann had minor injuries and was transferred to St. David’s Hospital. APD spokeswoman Veneza Aguinaga said the bus driver has already received a citation and whether he is at fault will be determined by insurance companies.

Town Lake Animal Center is waiving dog adoption fees in an attempt to encourage adoption and prevent euthanasia.

A surge in requests by commuters has led Capital Metro to increase its availability of rail service to weekend riders.

UT students heading to the San Marcos River may have to leave beer and other alcoholic beverages out of their coolers if San Marcos city officials pass a proposal banning alcohol in public parks.
The San Marcos City Council granted preliminary approval for an ordinance proposal that would ban the public display and consumption of alcohol in city parks on Tuesday. If implemented, the ban would include parks that line the San Marcos River, a prominent tubing tourist attraction.

The FBI and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the possible theft of chemical materials from a UT lab by former graduate student Karl Jasheway, 26, according to University officials.
