Black completely and totally embodies Bernie, and much of the schtick found in his film career disappears here in favor of something much more human and likeable.

CAIRO — An Egyptian court on Tuesday upheld a conviction against one of the Arab world’s most famous comedians, sentencing him to jail for offending Islam in some of his most popular films.

The case against Adel Imam and others like it have raised concerns among some Egyptians that ultraconservative Muslims who made gains in recent elections after Hosni Mubarak’s ouster last year are trying to foist their religious views on the entire country. Critics say the trend threatens to curb Egypt’s vibrant film industry and freedom of speech.

Their pre-production set into motion, their lens focused on their subjects, their editing formed a story. It was something they were relatively used to — except that there was another camera on them.

Another Academy Awards goes by and just a few minutes after, the show is all but forgotten (Jean Dujar — who won for Best Actor?). Except for Angelina’s left leg sticking out of her dress, the show was a tame affair, from the traditional host of Billy Crystal to the largely unsurprising winners.

Indie rock group Islands has risen to prominence since it released its debut, Return to the Sea, in 2006. The group’s soft, melancholic sound compliments its name: wavy, reverberated guitars rock back and forth, swallowing a shore of softly-hit drums and crescendoing vocal harmonies.

When the first trailer for “The Grey” hit, the idea of Liam Neeson reuniting with his “The A-Team” director Joe Carnahan for an extended arctic battle with wolves sounded almost too awesome to be true. However, “The Grey” is not the film the trailers make it out to be: a brutal, unexpectedly touching survival film that’s a far cry from the goofy escapism Neeson has been starring in recently.

Day two picked up with a mighty gust — but it was more dirt squalls than anything. Despite killer sets from shoegaze soloist Active Child and experimental pop band Purity Ring, the early vibe in the sandbox was mostly flat. Perhaps it was the annoyance of breathing through bandana masks or how vast the park was for an indie festival, but the lackluster crowd appeared hard to please.

Still, artists managed to get the crowd moving.
