The sound of ceaseless buzzing is in the air as Rachel Kolar begins to work on a piece of art. Her paintbrush is a needle, her medium is ink and her canvas is the human body.

Kolar has been working at True Blue Tattoo for 10 years. In high school, she knew she wanted to be a tattoo artist. After attending art school in Philadelphia, she moved to Austin and that dream became a reality. Kolar learned the craft by watching others and practicing on her friends.

Editor's Note: Betsy Cooper is a Design Senior who's a hardened veteran at the Comics Page. Her strip "Extra Elbows" has graced the page with idyosyncratic characters and expressive watercolor humor.

When we asked Betsy to let us show some material from her sketchbooks for the blog, she suprised us with eight notebooks filled with amazing artwork. This post collects a small sampling from only one of them, a small square green clothbound book from last fall. A very small portion of her tremendous body of work.

While I can appreciate the light-heartedness of Friday’s Daily Texan story on the top 10 bathrooms on campus, I feel that a front-page story letting students know which restroom has a couch is in poor taste to more pressing issues surrounding bathroom use.
