For the second straight game, the Longhorns came back to beat A&M.
The rain caused a few issues for the Longhorns this weekend, but none of those problems were on the field. The No. 13 ranked Texas team only played two out of five scheduled games in the Time Warner Texas Invitational. Of those two games, however, the Longhorns proved too strong for their opponents.
Texas was scheduled to play two games on Friday, the first being against 10th ranked Tennessee and the other against Pittsburgh. While the game against the Lady Volunteers was cancelled due to the inclement weather, Texas did take the field against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
The Houston Texans dropped their last game against the Panthers, and with it came a much needed knock back down to reality for Texans fans who were ready to buy Super Bowl tickets. Houston achieved its first playoff berth by tackling each game one at a time, and will have to continue to do so as the season wears on. With as many injuries as its sustained, however, doing so will require an especially inspired effort from the few players the Texans have left.

In his first ever start, Nathan Thornhill was perfect. Well, for five innings at least.
And if the gem the freshman pitched against the Panthers is any indication — four strikeouts with no runner allowed on base on 61 pitches — then Texas may have found its new setup man.
“I’m certainly excited by him,” said head coach Augie Garrido.
Some notes after Texas’ 8-0 win over the Panthers:
Nathan Thornhill (2-0) pitched five perfect innings in his first career start. No need for the freshman pitcher to go a full nine innings though, not against a 23-18 team, and not when his previous career high for innings pitched in a game was two.
It won’t help his average, but Paul Montalbano (who went 0-for-2) had two sacrifice flies for the Longhorns. And a few days after his 15-game hitting streak was snapped, Erich Weiss rebounded with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, with 2 RBI.
