Madonna’s age looms large over her latest album, MDNA. At 53, she has remained relevant (despite protests from her critics to the contrary) in the world of entertainment where celebrities are edged out before you can say “Miley.”

“If it’s halftime in America, I’m fearful of what the final score’s going to be if we let this president start the second half as a quarterback.”
— Texas Gov. Rick Perry at the Conservative Political Action Committee meeting Thursday, referencing a line in Clint Eastwood’s Super Bowl commercial, according to KUT News.

INDIANAPOLIS — Take that, Brady. You too, Peyton.

Eli Manning is the big man in the NFL after one-upping Tom Brady and leading the New York Giants to a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots in Sunday's Super Bowl — in older brother Peyton's house, at that.

Just as Manning did four years ago when the Giants ruined New England's perfect season, he guided them 88 yards to the decisive touchdown, which the Patriots didn't contest as Ahmad Bradshaw ran 6 yards with 57 seconds left.

While football fans wore jerseys emblazoned with their team’s logo on Super Bowl Sunday, fashion fiends around the nation slipped into comfortable shoes and an outfit that would be easy to quickly peel on and off in the fitting rooms for the launch of designer Jason Wu’s line for Target.

This is the first time that the Super Bowl is a rematch of a regular season game since the 2007 season, in which these same Giants and Patriots played each other in the regular season finale, with the Patriots finishing their perfect regular season. In the 45 year history of the Super Bowl, there have only been 12 rematches of regular season games.

NEW YORK — With the Super Bowl days away, federal authorities announced a crackdown Thursday on websites that stream unauthorized broadcasts of sports events just hours after New England quarterback Tom Brady told reporters gathered in Indianapolis that he watched last year’s game on an illegal site.

Investigators seized 16 sites and brought criminal charges against a Michigan man who controlled nine of them.

The Houston Texans dropped their last game against the Panthers, and with it came a much needed knock back down to reality for Texans fans who were ready to buy Super Bowl tickets. Houston achieved its first playoff berth by tackling each game one at a time, and will have to continue to do so as the season wears on. With as many injuries as its sustained, however, doing so will require an especially inspired effort from the few players the Texans have left.

Miami quarterback Matt Moore has led the Dolphins to wins in five of their last seven games, throwing 11 touchdowns and only two interceptions during that span.

Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton hasn’t had as much luck racking up victories for the 5-9 Panthers but has scored 30 touchdowns and is on pace to amass nearly 5,000 total yards this season.

It wasn’t the intent, but Mack Brown’s opening statement with the print media for his Monday press conference sounded more like a death sentence you’d hear before an execution than an actual list of statistics.

Vince Young hasn’t had a lot go his way recently.

The days of him doing a Heisman pose with a crystal ball, leading comeback after comeback and playing in Pro Bowls seem like a distant memory after the turmoil and controversy that have characterized Young’s career recently. All fans seem to remember now is Young getting hurt too often, throwing his pads into the stands and never getting along with his coach, Jeff Fisher.

Stafford is ready

In explaining how he created his pitching rotation for this weekend, head coach Augie Garrido did his best Joe Namath, predicting that his Longhorns would take care of business against Princeton on Friday.

“If you win with Sam Stafford on Friday — which we’re going to — we’ll be set up for Taylor on Saturday,” Garrido said.

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a season where it would be either Super Bowl or bust, as they were looking to be the first team in NFL history to play the big game at home.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the season ended up being one of the most disappointing in team history, a 6-10 finish that netted only one positive: the No. 9 pick in last weekend’s NFL draft.

The Cowboys decided tackle was the biggest need, and went with Tyron Smith, a right tackle out of USC.

As of today, at least to my knowledge, no technology exists that can prevent poor weather.

It happens.

Neither Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Highland Park, Grapevine, Mesquite, Denton, Richardson nor even Plano (east or west) could do anything about it.

It was a shame that the weather was miserable last week as North Texas was turned into a giant ice cube. Events were cancelled. Roads were closed. People were stranded. That isn’t how Super Bowl week is supposed to be spent. And it doesn’t happen often.

ARLINGTON — In their zeal to set a Super Bowl attendance record, the NFL and Jerry Jones overlooked one important detail: Making sure all the temporary seats inside mammoth Cowboys Stadium had been inspected and were ready for the fans.

A week plagued by poor weather took an embarrassing turn Sunday when the league had to find replacement seats for 850 fans. The NFL also scrambled to find a place for another 400 people to sit inside Jones’ $1.2 billion palace and couldn’t find any with a view of the field.

The cheers of Packers supporters rang through Jester West on Sunday as football fans celebrated the Super Bowl win.

As Arlington hosted Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium, which opened in 2009, Longhorns divided themselves into Steelers and Packers fans Sunday with watch parties on and off campus to celebrate the football game. Jester West held a watch party in the front lounge, and establishments around West Campus — including Pluckers, Cain & Abel’s and Cuatros — broadcast the game on big screen televisions.

ARLINGTON — Aaron Rodgers has turned the Green Bay Packers into Super Bowl champions once again.

Rodgers threw three touchdown passes and Nick Collins returned an interception for another score, leading the Packers to a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

This was Green Bay’s fourth Super Bowl title. The Packers won the first two Super Bowls with Vince Lombardi coaching Bart Starr, and captured another with Brett Favre in January 1997.

Despite last week’s inclement weather conditions, businesses in the Arlington area are expecting to increase their revenue by hosting this year’s Super Bowl championship.

Super Bowl XLV is expected to generate $611 million for local establishments in Dallas and the surrounding cities. The estimate comes from an economic impact study that the National Football League commissioned last year, said Tony Fay, spokesman of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee.
