Follow Keenan Robinson on Twitter and you can really pick the Texas linebacker’s brain.
He’s a realist.
“U better believe it’s gone bro,” Robinson (@KeenanRobinson1) tweeted earlier this month in response to fellow Longhorn Case McCoy, who lamented losing his iPad on an airplane.
WASHINGTON — The General Services Administration inspector general said Monday that he’s investigating possible bribery and kickbacks in the agency, as a central figure in a GSA spending scandal asserted his right to remain silent at a congressional hearing.
Inspector general Brian Miller, responding to a question at the hearing, said, “We do have other ongoing investigations, including all sorts of improprieties, including bribes, including possible kickbacks.”
Two Big 12 teams faced top-level basketball programs in the Elite 8 round of the NCAA tournament this weekend. Second-seed Kansas and third-seed Baylor entered as technical underdogs in their match ups — though Kansas was given the slight edge by Las Vegas due to injuries on the Tar heel squad — and both teams put up a fight, but the results were mixed.
SEBRING, Fla. — Several IndyCar drivers dismissed any notion of boycotting Texas Motor Speedway and said the entire issue has been blown out of proportion.
“I want to stop all this nonsense discussion about boycotting. It’s absurd, it’s ridiculous and we are professionals and will race there,” Helio Castroneves said on Monday, following the first day of spring training testing at Sebring International Raceway.
A smoky haze fills the air of the B12 bingo parlor. Patrons young and old stamp their bingo cards with a paint pen, hoping that the next number called will give them the chance to yell “bingo” at the top of their lungs.
This isn’t the bingo you played during the dreaded indoor recess in elementary school. At B12, a bingo means big money. The pot starts at $300 and goes up to $700 as the game gets more complex.

With the rapid rise of the health food movement, students are constantly barraged with prescriptions of what to eat: local food, sustainable food, organic food, chemical-free food. We are told to search labels for key words like “all-natural” and “farm raised.” We should avoid “processed” and “industrial” packaged foods at all costs.
Electronic dance music, or EDM, has emerged as the next big thing for American mainstream music. Key components include Las Vegas' Electric Daisy Carnival, a festival that has become notorious for its nocturnal DJ sets, the sea of neon-clad individuals that accompany EDM, and most recently, new kid on the block Skrillex, who won three Grammy awards on Sunday. EDM is baptizing skeptics in its synth-soaked, bass-heavy waters, and once the conversion is complete, there's no turning back.
LAS VEGAS — Now it’s on to Colorado, Minnesota and Maine.
With back-to-back victories fueling him, Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney is looking toward the next states that hold GOP nominating contests as main rival Newt Gingrich brushes aside any talk of abandoning his White House bid, all but ensuring the battle will stretch into the spring if not beyond.
A fragmented mirage in the Mojave Desert ricocheting in and out of view would be an adequate image to pair with the music in Sumach Valentine’s sophomore album, MU.ZZ.LE. Under the moniker Gonjasufi, Valentine is an inhabitant of the Mojave Desert by way of Las Vegas, and his 10 track LP is segmented with traces of lo-fi fuzz, dashes of hip-hop bass and waves of psychedelic beat, music suitable for grieving in scorching heat.
For the 10th season in a row, the Longhorns have started the season 2-0. After two convincing home wins, Texas now heads to East Rutherford, N.J., to compete in the championship rounds of the TicketCity Legends Classic. Texas will play Oregon State on Saturday evening in the IZOD Center, the former home of the New Jersey Nets. Since Texas was selected as a regional host for the tournament, it will automatically advance no matter the result against the Beavers. North Carolina State and Vanderbilt also played host and will advance as well.
LAS VEGAS — Working to distinguish himself from rival Mitt Romney, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday that he wants to scrap America’s current tax laws and impose a flat tax.
Perry told the Western Republican Leadership Conference he plans to explain the tax proposal when he unveils his broad economic plan in a speech next week.
He called the plan “an economic growth package that will create jobs, create growth and create investor confidence in America again.”
LAS VEGAS — Talk about nasty. The bitter, face-to-face sniping at this week’s Republican debate was just a prelude to the coming weeks as Mitt Romney’s rivals seek to tear him down before the leadoff Iowa caucuses.
Increasingly on the defensive, Romney is being hammered on old issues — like an accusation of hiring illegal immigrants to work on his yard — and is creating new openings for everyone from Rick Perry to President Barack Obama.
Brad Cason knows the devil is in the details.
He is a man who takes pride in his workmanship, something he views as a bit of a lost art form. And he hopes his work will visible at this weekend’s Texas Custom Bicycle Show.
ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Rick Perry has lost some of his Texas swagger. Maybe that’s what happens when a governor tops Republican presidential polls the minute he joins the race, only to plummet after a shaky debate performance.
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Casting himself as America’s CEO, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Tuesday outlined a sweeping economic plan that would reduce regulations and taxes on companies, sanction China over its currency practices and weaken the clout of labor unions.
Trying to hold off surging rival Rick Perry, Romney traveled to economically suffering Nevada and stood inside a giant truck warehouse to deliver his multi-point plan designed to position him as the GOP contender with the most comprehensive approach to fixing the economy.
Nowadays, it seems like anytime a breeze blows through someone’s hair, a feather is revealed. A quick glance at the sunbathers at Barton Springs Pool reveals the trend has spread to everyone from children to grandmothers.
Naturally, the fashion-forward are looking for something new, and hair tinsel appears to be the answer.
This is not the tinsel that you throw on the Christmas tree every December. Hair tinsel is a tiny highlighted strand tied to the existing hair using a special knot.
About 100 people wander around Speakeasy on Saturday night, ordering drinks and yelling conversation over the top-40 and hip-hop tracks that are blaring from the speakers, but all attention turns to getting down on the dance floor when Captain Cosmos and his band of outer space superheroes take the stage.
Salutations, my garage sale amigos!
Saturday marked my inaugural dive into the eclectic ocean of Austin garage sales, and I have to say it yielded some pretty decent finds. There wasn’t anything too extraordinary, but just like fishing or pregnancy, garage selling requires patience: The juicy stuff will reveal itself when it’s ready.
When she’s traveling or just wants a break for her feet, Jessica Nadeau slips on a pair of her Solettos — a comfortable ballet flat designed for emergency situations.
“When you think of Solettos, you will consciously think of stilettos,” said Jessica Nadeau, CEO of Solettos. “It’s a shoe for your sole.”
While many Texas students spent the holiday break enjoying time away from their daily routines on the 40 Acres, the Longhorns were still hard at work trying to further boost their status as a national contender. Despite early success, their conference losses ensured that their holiday was not entirely merry.
After a loss to Tennessee in mid-December, the Longhorns turned their fortunes around by sweeping the Basketball Travelers Invitational Classic in Las Vegas.
As the Texas women’s basketball players and coaches fielded questions during the team’s first press conference on Tuesday, there seemed to be a reoccurring theme: coping.
Driving north along Burnet Road, away from Austin’s downtown epicenter of small, local businesses, one can begin to feel lost in the middle of franchises and empty construction. However, nestled in a newly built, caramel-colored shopping center is Lick It Bite It Or Both, a local bakery with a unique spin on dessert, serving cake and ice cream merged together as one instead of complimentary to one another.
Although it is easy to overlook the bakery, especially with The Domain located closely to the left, Lick It Bite It Or Both should not be dismissed.
Heading into this weekend’s Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, head coach John Fields just wants his team to relax and have fun. After all, it is spring break, not to mention the fact that the tournament is being held in Las Vegas.
“We need to enjoy ourselves on the course this week, and I really mean that. Don’t get stressed, just go play,” Fields said.
