Texas made a bold statement on the last two days of competition at the 103rd Annual Drake Relays, the last meet of the regular outdoor season.
With 12 UT athletes competing in 12 events, Longhorns secured the top mark in two preliminary races and claimed four overall victories.

In a measure of the sharp elbows both parties are throwing this election year, note that those words were exchanged over legislation whose basic purpose they say they agree on: preventing interest rates on millions of federal student loans from doubling to 6.8 percent this summer.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — President Barack Obama went after the college vote Tuesday, pitching cheaper student loans as he courted the one age group where he has a decided advantage over Republican rival Mitt Romney. The twist? Romney, too, has endorsed the idea, though it’s unclear whether deficit-leery Republicans in Congress will go along.
After UT divided and conquered last week at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Longhorn Invitational, a reunited and improved No. 10 Texas is geared up for a forge into the final regular meet of the outdoor season.

After a rough 2-6 stretch during their season-opening eight game road trip, the Round Rock Express are hoping to return to last season’s winning form. The defending American South division champions will finally get their home schedule underway with a series against the Iowa Cubs this weekend.
The Round Rock Express dropped their second straight game in the midst of their season-opening eight game road trip.
Omaha’s Max Ramirez broke a 3-3 tie with a solo shot in the home half of the eighth inning. Antony Seratelli bombed a two-run homer later in the inning to cap the Star Chasers 6-3 comeback victory over the Express.
Coming off of a walk-off loss to the Iowa Cubs on Sunday, the Express fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers in similar fashion.
While the bright lights of Dell Diamond will sit dormant for the first week of the season, the Round Rock Express will open 2012 in Iowa looking to start off on the right foot.
The Express are coming off a stellar 2011 that saw them win the American South division in the Pacific Coast League with 87 wins. The downside for the Express was losing the opening series of the playoffs to Omaha in four games.

Its Final Four time. The underdogs have been dealt with, and the Cinderellas have sent home: this one is exclusive. After a couple of seasons of upsets, and unlikely runs to the national semis, only the blue bloods of basketball made it through this one.
Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State and Kansas are the four teams left, and they collectively combine for 13 National Championships and 44 Final Four appearances, counting this season(it would be 45, but Ohio State had a Final Four vacated by the NCAA).
It’s almost time for the Longhorns to come back to Austin. Today is their last game on their road trip after traveling to Hawaii and up north to Iowa during an eight game stretch.
Texas only has to go down I-10 for this one as they face off against the University of Houston Cougars.
Tonight’s game is more than just a softball game. Every year the University of Houston teams up with the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure to have a Strike Out Breast Cancer game, and this year it falls on their single game showdown against the Longhorns.
Junior Kim Bruins stepped up to the plate. In front of her was the Iowa State defense and three of her teammates on base. On a perfect 2-2 pitch, the Longhorn’s starting pitcher knocked the ball out of the park in the first grand slam of her career.
“I have never hit a grand slam before in my life, so today was definitely my best overall game,” Bruins said.
While they are away from paradise and back on the mainland, the Longhorns are back traveling as they head north to Iowa for their second conference series of the season.

Here’s what to look for in this week’s major conference tournaments.
Big 12
After failing to lock up a signature win against an in-conference power during the regular season, the Longhorns will likely need to win at least their first matchup against Iowa State to make the NCAA tournament.
Strengths:
The best thing Texas has going for it is the strength and depth of the Big 12. The Longhorns play in one of the top conferences in the nation and held their own with a 9-9 record in league play.
The Big 12 is the only conference with three teams with a .800 win percentage or higher (Kansas, Missouri, Baylor). It is also the only league with half of its teams having fewer than 10 losses (KU, MU, BU, Iowa State, Kansas State).

Texas held its fate in its own hands going into Saturday. A win over the Cowboys would’ve given the Longhorns five straight wins going into the matchup against Baylor, and an outside shot at the fourth seed in the Big 12 Championships depending on how Iowa State finished the season. Now a loss to Oklahoma State has Texas in a tough spot, and in need of a big win in order to secure a favorable postseason berth.
Senior infielder Lexy Bennett is excited to be back on the field. Towards the end of the 2011 regular season, Bennett was forced to watch her team from the bench after a rouge pitch injured her right arm in a game against Iowa State. After turning in a .438 batting average with 57 hits and 41 RBIs last season, the senior’s presence on the field is crucial to the Longhorn’s game plan as they seek to make it to the NCAA Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
