Brackenridge is operated by Seton under a lease from its publicly-funded owner, Central Health. This new hospital could serve as a teaching hospital and offer support for an Austin-based medical school operated by the UT System.

Three relievers gave up three walks and two runs in the eighth inning and the Nationals won 3-2 Wednesday night.
Houston lost its fourth in a row and seven in eight games. Four of the Astros’ last five losses have been by one run.
“Students took lessons that they learned in the classes taught here at UT ... and applied them to the real-world situation of the conditions of their own education and asked the University to commit to real monitoring agencies under the Worker Rights Consortium. Instead of being praised for their convictions, the administration has sought to vilify them for ‘trespassing.’”
The final days of school are approaching, and it is hard not to have summer in mind. Final projects and examinations are on the horizon, and what better way to take your mind off the stress of school than a quick jaunt to Houston?

Dispelling any concerns that he would avoid the spotlight after his spectacularly failed presidential run, Gov. Rick Perry unveiled his new budget proposal, the Texas Budget Compact, on Monday. The proposal would strongly oppose any new tax increases in the state budget.

Food trailers are looking to establish their own niches to stand apart from the hundreds of food trucks, trailers and Airstreams in town. Whether it’s deep dish, thin crust or covered in traditional Korean kimchi, here are three pizza trailers that serve up tastes from across the country, and even the world, through a trailer window in town.
Editor’s note: From redistricting to the state’s B-On-Time loan program, these are among our favorite quotes from the past several days.
“There would be very little time before November to advertise, ‘here’s what the districts look like,’ and more important, there would be relatively very little time for the public to weigh in on what those districts ought to look like with the commission.”
LOS ANGELES — Former President George H.W. Bush plans to endorse Mitt Romney at an event Thursday in Houston.
Romney spokeswoman Gail Gitcho says the two will appear together and speak to reporters.
Formal backing from the 41st president is another sign that the Republican Party is uniting behind Romney as pressure builds on challengers Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich to leave the race.
Cookies for charity have played a popular role in Austin, and Houston residents will soon be getting the chance to taste Tiff’s Treats and spare change for a life-changing cause.
It’s almost time for the Longhorns to come back to Austin. Today is their last game on their road trip after traveling to Hawaii and up north to Iowa during an eight game stretch.
Texas only has to go down I-10 for this one as they face off against the University of Houston Cougars.
Tonight’s game is more than just a softball game. Every year the University of Houston teams up with the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure to have a Strike Out Breast Cancer game, and this year it falls on their single game showdown against the Longhorns.
A new study shows four out of five eighth-grade students in Texas will not go on to complete college degrees after high school graduation.
The Houston Endowment foundation collaborated with the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems to conduct a study which found that only one in five eighth-graders enrolled in Texas public schools earned postsecondary education credentials within six years of their expected high school graduation date.
HOUSTON — Texas tycoon R. Allen Stanford spent more than 20 years charming investors, who handed him billions of dollars they had spent their lives accumulating.
Stanford promised them safe investments, all the while, he was pulling their money out of his Caribbean bank to pay for a string of failed businesses and a jet-setting lifestyle.
Stanford, once considered one of the wealthiest people in the U.S., with a financial empire that spanned the Americas, was convicted Tuesday on charges he bilked investors out of more than $7 billion.
Last Tuesday, six different Texas pitchers combined to throw a three-hit shutout in one of the Longhorns’ most dominating pitching performances of the season.
A week later, they nearly topped it. Once again, Texas sent out half a dozen hurlers and thanks to their efforts, two runs were enough to pick up a win. This time, the Longhorns (5-7) beat Dallas Baptist, 2-1, in a 12-inning pitcher’s duel at UFCU Disch-Falk Field Tuesday evening.
Texas didn’t get swept this past weekend like it did by Stanford earlier this season, but the remainder of the Houston College Classic did not go particularly well for the Longhorns.
Texas' weekend at the Houston College Classic started out well with an upset win over No. 5 Rice on Friday, but the rest of the three game set didn't go as planned.
No. 21 Texas (4-7) dropped its next game 5-4 to an unranked Tennessee (8-2) squad after its late inning rally came up short, and on Sunday Texas fell to another SEC team, No. 4 Arkansas.
HOUSTON — The Texas agency that oversees oil and gas drilling in the state has elected a new chairman who will oversee a thorough review ordered by the Legislature.

The Railroad Commission approves oil and gas drilling permits, and oversees other aspects of the state’s energy field. It does not oversee railroads.
It’s hard to lose when you don’t let the other team score.
The Longhorns found this out in a 2-0 win over Houston Baptist Tuesday night, their first victory since opening day. Texas ended a five-game losing streak with the win despite not advancing a baserunner past second base through the first six innings. But a seventh-inning rally produced the only two runs scored by either team and propelled the Longhorns to their first triumph since sweeping Duke in a season-opening doubleheader Feb. 18.
After a 7-5 loss to UT-Arlington last Tuesday, head coach Augie Garrido was asked if his team was ready to play Stanford — his response was a no-nonsense “No”.
Unfortunately for Texas, Garrido was right. The Longhorns were shellacked over the three game series, as the Cardinals outscored Texas 28-5 in a sweep. The series loss was capped off by a 15-1 beatdown on Sunday, in which Texas gave up 13 runs in the fourth inning, only eight runs short of the NCAA record for most runs allowed in an inning.

When it comes to comfort food, pho has it down. The Vietnamese soup (pronounced “fuh”) is rich with flavor and will satisfy any hunger pains with huge bowls that are overflowing with broth that can be flavored with beef, seafood, pork, vegetable or chicken, noodles and vegetables. The authentic full-flavored soup is not a simple thing to achieve because of the approximately four hours it takes to allow for simmering and preparation, and some restaurants in Austin excel over others.
Not only a pioneer in Texas’ political and civil rights arenas, Houston native Barbara Jordan was also a faculty member at UT where she is remembered each year on her birthday.
