Food trailers are looking to establish their own niches to stand apart from the hundreds of food trucks, trailers and Airstreams in town. Whether it’s deep dish, thin crust or covered in traditional Korean kimchi, here are three pizza trailers that serve up tastes from across the country, and even the world, through a trailer window in town.

It’s peak crawfish season, and restaurants around town are crawling with the tasty critters. Technically, you can get crawfish almost year round, but they tend to be the biggest and tastiest from March to June.

Widely known around the world as crayfish, or écrevisse in French, these freshwater crustaceans are also called crawdads or mudbugs. They are related to lobsters but are much smaller, averaging about seven inches long and dating back to the late 1700s.

Students living on campus depend on the $1,700 that the Division of Housing and Food Services provides to feed them. They need a meal plan that is versatile in hours, diverse in options and, most importantly, that will last until the end of the year. Unfortunately, campus dining fails at all of these criteria. If UT wants to present a viable option for student dining, it must provide better hours, fairer pricing and more Bevo Bucks.

The air inside of Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop smells sweet. Carla Finley emerges from the kitchen with a smile on her face, covered head to toe in flour and cake batter.

Five days a week, Finley wakes up before sunrise. While the rest of Austin sleeps, Finley bakes cupcakes and mini pies in the Sugar Mama’s kitchen. The bakeshop has a 1950s feel. Aprons with appliques line one of the walls, a retro refrigerator sits in the corner and the black and white checkered tiles shine after being freshly mopped.

When it comes to comfort food, pho has it down. The Vietnamese soup (pronounced “fuh”) is rich with flavor and will satisfy any hunger pains with huge bowls that are overflowing with broth that can be flavored with beef, seafood, pork, vegetable or chicken, noodles and vegetables. The authentic full-flavored soup is not a simple thing to achieve because of the approximately four hours it takes to allow for simmering and preparation, and some restaurants in Austin excel over others.

With the rapid rise of the health food movement, students are constantly barraged with prescriptions of what to eat: local food, sustainable food, organic food, chemical-free food. We are told to search labels for key words like “all-natural” and “farm raised.” We should avoid “processed” and “industrial” packaged foods at all costs.

On Sundays, brunch isn’t just a meal, it’s a way of life. The meal is a true hybrid that blurs the lines between breakfast and lunch with menu staples such as fried chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, and signature cocktails such as mimosas and Bloody Marys. Whoever said you couldn’t have the best of both worlds has obviously never had a drink before noon or a pancake for lunch.

From the sweet aroma of cinnamon, gingerbread and red apples to the rich flavors of brown sugar, vanilla and chocolate, the winter holidays are the only season to have its own unique blend of scents, spices and ingredients. While many students are skipping Wednesday classes to drive to their hometowns while dreaming of sweet potatoes and pumpkin pies, others will not be spending Thanksgiving athome.

Noodles & Company is the last franchise to fill out the space that once was Follett’s Intellectual Property on the Drag. Featuring a multi-cuisinal customizable menu with at least eight different kinds of noodles, Noodles & Company, at least on paper, sounds like a great place to take a group of friends with thin billfolds who are all craving something different.
