In yesterday’s Daily Texan, the Texan sports opinion staff informed readers that they could pass on the first 20 minutes of the draft. Hopefully you tuned in soon after because Radio City Music Hall got pretty interesting on Thursday night.
Three surprising top-10 trades shook up the draft. But at the end of the night, Trent Richardson landed in Cleveland, Justin Blackmon went to Jacksonville and Morris Clairborne ended up in Dallas.

Oh yeah, Andrew Luck was selected by the Colts first and Robert Griffin III was chosen by the Redskins with the second pick.

SAN FRANCISCO — In a case that affects thousands of businesses and millions of workers, the California Supreme Court ruled Thursday that employers are under no obligation to ensure that workers take legally mandated lunch breaks.

The unanimous opinion came after workers’ attorneys argued that abuses are routine and widespread when companies aren’t required to issue direct orders to take the breaks. They claimed employers take advantage of workers who don’t want to leave colleagues during busy times.

Late October of last year, four radio-television-film students, David Bukstein and Ali Haji, Morgan Young and Bao Troung, had set out on their respective projects: whether it was a documentary on their family or a choir group or the human rights campaign. Their pre-production set into motion, their lens focused on their subjects, their editing formed a story. It was something they were relatively used to — except that there was another camera on them.

Texas’ offensive woes continued Sunday afternoon but, unlike their last game, the Longhorns couldn’t produce the extra-inning runs to pull out a win.

Sophomore pitcher Nathan Thornhill threw 7.1 scoreless innings but got no run support as Loyola Marymount (5-7) squeaked past Texas (5-8), 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at UFCU Disch-Falk Field Sunday afternoon.

No team from the state of Texas has ever won the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship.

That’s right, the state with the most teams in the conference has never had a school crowned tournament champion.

And barring a miraculous run by either Baylor or Texas, the streak won’t end this weekend.

Sure, there have been regular season champs from the state, but neither Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech nor Baylor has ever won the conference tourney in the 15 years since its inception.

Crowding the plate, Tim Maitland stares intently at the pitcher and does not give an inch, even as a 90 mph fastball heads directly at him.

At this point, most hitters would take their cue and move off of the plate to avoid the sting of impact — not Maitland. He takes the pain and calmly strides to first base.

Last Tuesday, six different Texas pitchers combined to throw a three-hit shutout in one of the Longhorns’ most dominating pitching performances of the season.

A week later, they nearly topped it. Once again, Texas sent out half a dozen hurlers and thanks to their efforts, two runs were enough to pick up a win. This time, the Longhorns (5-7) beat Dallas Baptist, 2-1, in a 12-inning pitcher’s duel at UFCU Disch-Falk Field Tuesday evening.

Now that the farce that the NBA calls the All Star Game is over( 88 points in a half, seriously?), basketball teams can look forward to the games finally counting as they push for division championships and playoff positions.

We’ll go ahead and get this one out of the way: there will be no mention of that phrase which has gone from quaint to cliché so fast, it made Tim Tebow’s head spin.
