The newly renovated Clark Field is now reserved for about 10 hours per week for the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, leaving students unable to use the field during team practice.
The dedication of Caven Lacrosse and Sports Center at Clark Field is the silver lining that emerged from tragedy, said former Board of Regents chairman Scott Caven Jr.
At a dedication ceremony for the center Friday, Caven said the naming of the field in honor of his family would forever serve as a reminder of the four generations of his family that attended the University as well as his son, who died in a car accident shortly before beginning at UT.
A new addition to UT recreation will include an outdoor playground for students and staff to exercise on and a field for them to enjoy UT lacrosse matches.
While higher education continues to struggle with budget cuts, donations from various organizations continue to allow for the beginning of new construction projects throughout the University, project managers said.
The lights were dimmer than usual Saturday night at the UT Tower.
To promote environmental awareness, the University delayed the normal lighting time of the Tower an hour later until 9:30 p.m. in honor of the fifth-annual Earth Hour.
Lighting at Whitaker Fields and Tennis Courts, Clark Field and Basketball Courts, and the Penick-Allison Tennis Center were also delayed.
