Senior Bobby Hudson received a sponsor’s exemption to compete in this week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic on the PGA Tour. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Hudson, as the tournament will take place June 10-13 at TPC Southwind in Hudson’s hometown of Memphis, Tenn.
There was no squeaking into the next stage of postseason play this time.
The Longhorns were not able to mount a comeback in the final round of the NCAA Championship and failed to qualify for the match play portion of the tournament. The Longhorns stayed near the middle of the pack most of the tournament, and finished in 12th place at 31-over for the tournament, thus ending their season in Oklahoma City at Karsten Creek Golf Club.
The roster of the 2011 All-Big 12 team was released Tuesday, and a trio of Longhorns received honors. Senior Bobby Hudson, junior Dylan Frittelli and freshman Toni Hakula were among 11 student-athletes recognized by the conference.
Hudson was honored for the third time in his career after posting three top-10 finishes this season. His best finish came at the Amer Ari Invitational in which he tied for first.

After a tough first two days, Texas registered a decisive win over the Bears to finish in 15th place. This is the lowest the Longhorns have finished in a tournament since spring competition began.
Longhorn senior Bobby Hudson is one of 26 collegiate golfers recently named to the watch list for the 2011 Ben Hogan Award.

Another tournament, another successful showing for the No. 8 ranked Texas men’s golf team. The trip to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Scioto Country Club reaped them a third-place finish in the final team standings. The seeds of such labors were sewn in the last two rounds of the tournament, where the Longhorns scored the best collective score for those 36 holes out of the entire field with an 8-over par.
A strong finish like that was just what the Longhorns needed, as they struggled out of the gate in the first of their three rounds.
