Vice president a 'dedicated, innovative leader'

Donna K. Sollenberger, a nationally recognized health care administrator, will lead the University of Texas Medical Branch Health System as executive vice president this fall.

“I realize that great challenges lie ahead,” Sollenberger said in a statement. “But I believe the future holds tremendous opportunity.”

Sollenberger, who was chosen by UTMB President Dr. David Callender, begins her new position Sept. 14. Callender said in a statement that he chose Sollenberger because of her ability to help complex organizations fulfill their potential.

“This is a critical time in our history, and Donna’s background in health care administration and academic medicine makes her the right leader for our future as we rebuild and reinvent UTMB,” Callender said.

Sollenberger is the executive vice president of the Baylor Clinic and Hospital. She has overseen the opening of the medical office building and the expansion of programs at the Baylor Clinic, said William Butler, interim president of Baylor College of Medicine. Prior to that post, she served as president and CEO of the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics.

“This is an excellent opportunity for Donna and a terrific choice by UTMB,” Butler said. “She is a dedicated, innovative leader who will continue to play an important role in clinical health care.”

UTMB officials say the campus in Galveston offers a network of facilities that includes a hospital complex, campus and community clinics and a correctional managed care program, which gives aid to 75 percent of the state’s incarcerated population.
