Texas women's tennis team looks to end the 2008 season on a high note this weekend. A win against Baylor on Saturday will give Texas the No. 1 position in the Big 12 Conference, regardless of the outcome of the match against Texas Tech.
No. 21 Texas goes into the two final matches with a 15-4 overall record and a 9-0 conference record. Baylor (24-2, 10-0) is currently ranked No. 3 by the ITA and has four players ranked in the top 100 in singles. Baylor has only dropped matches to No. 1 Northwestern and No. 4 Stanford.
In doubles against Baylor, Texas will start the No. 20 doubles pair junior Marija Milic and sophomore Vanja Corovic at No. 1 doubles. Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova and Lenka Broosova are the No. 7 doubles pair and will play at No. 1 for Baylor.
At No. 2 doubles, freshman Maggie Mello and senior Courtney Zauft will combine to play No. 55 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Stephanie Davison and freshman Caroline Larsson will take on Jana Bielikova and Zuzana Chmelarova.
In singles, No. 64 Corovic will play No. 25 Zemenova at No. 1 singles. In the No. 2 slot, Zauft will face No. 15 Broosova.
At No. 3, Davison will likely face Ormond or Broosova. At No. 4, Larsson will play Bielikova, and at No. 5, sophomore Sarah Lancaster will play Chmelarova.
At the No. 6 slot, Mello will play Karolina Filipiak.
Texas plays No. 73 Texas Tech (11-9, 4-5) Sunday at noon. In the doubles, Milic and Corovic will play Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift. Mello and Zauft will face Kerryn Potgieter and Brenna Jackson at No. 2 doubles. Davison and Larsson will play Kelsey Garland and Simone Templeton at No. 3.
In singles against the Red Raiders, Corovic will face Garland at No. 1. In the No. 2 slot, Zauft will take on van der Drift, and at No. 3, Davison will play Durham.
