Baylor kept a close eye on Texas for the majority of Wednesday night's battle. They blinked in the top of the fifth inning, and the Longhorns capitalized by earning six runs on four hits.

Texas (25-17-2; 9-6 Big 12) beat Baylor (22-18; 4-10 Big 12) 6-0 Wednesday night in Waco, as the Longhorns' bats came alive in the top of the fifth to break a scoreless tie.

"The timing of this win is tremendous," Texas head coach Connie Clark said. "The outcome of the Baylor game was very significant for what we want to do down the stretch."

The six-run rally started with sophomore outfielder Kori Cook's single to right field. She then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball before coming around to score on junior first-baseman Desiree Williams' RBI single.

Shortstop Loryn Johnson's single moved Williams to third and sophomore Tallie Thrasher was intentionally walked to load the bases. Junior second-baseman Kelly Melone reloaded the bases as her single brought Williams home. A Baylor error on junior catcher Kacie Gaskin's ground ball brought Thrasher and Johnson home, putting the Longhorns up 4-0.

Freshman right fielder Brittany Barnhill stepped up to the plate and drew a walk to keep the bases loaded. Sophomore centerfielder Brittany Chalk, who plated Melone, reached first base on another Baylor error. Texas took a 6-0 lead when Gaskin scored on Cook's bases-loaded wark.

Williams and Johnson headlined the Texas offense with two hits each, a run scored, and an RBI. Williams also tallied a walk.

Senior pitcher Meagan Denny (18-6) earned her 17th complete game and seventh shutout of the season. She allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out five batters, pitching the full seven innings.

"In the last week and a half, [Denny has been a pitcher rather than a thrower," Clark said. "When she does that she is awfully tough to beat."
