After enjoying the excitement of their 9-2 win over Oklahoma State on Sunday, it is now time for the Texas softball team to put their game faces on again.
The Longhorns will duke it out with the Aggies today at 6:30 p.m. at McCombs Field. A&M (36-6, 8-0 Big 12) is currently ranked No. 6 in the national polls and sits No. 1 in the Big 12 standings.
Aggie senior third baseman Jamie Hinshaw received last week's Big 12 Player of the Week honors. Hinshaw was 5-for-7 with three runs scored, four RBI, a double and a home run in A&M's double-header against Iowa State on Saturday. She accounted for five of the Aggies' 11 runs in the first game and also kept a perfect 12-12 stolen bases record. Her slugging percentage is a high 1.286, and she has accumulated a .354 batting average.
Although the Aggies seem intimidating, the Longhorns are eager to take a swing at being the Aggies' first Big 12 loss.
"We are really excited for it," junior first baseman Desiree Williams said. "It is going to be one of our toughest games of the season because they are loaded, but we are really excited."
Though A&M may be stacked with all-stars, to Texas, they are still the old rivaled Aggies.
"As exciting as it is to play A&M ... you know ... they're A&M," Williams said.
Because they are facing such an immense rival, Texas tries to be on top of their game every time they take the field.
"No matter how good, or how bad, or how OK [our opponents] are every year, we're still going to play like they are nationally ranked," Williams said.
