LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech gave coach Pat Knight something his father never got with the Red Raiders — 167 points.
The Red Raiders defeated East Central 167-115 Thursday night.
Trevor Cook scored a career-high 20 points and was one of 10 players in double figures for Texas Tech, which easily eclipsed the record for most points scored by the Red Raiders. Alan Voskuil and John Roberson each had 17 points and Mike Singletary and Wally Dunn each had 16.
“I’m a big believer in confidence,” Knight said. “We got 10 guys that score double figures. Proves to them they can at least put it in the bucket. Our defense is a little different. The game is just so different from anything. We’re not going to face anything like this.”
Bob Knight’s teams topped 100 points in five games at Tech with a high of 119. Tech topped 100 points for the first time since Dec. 10, 2005, when it beat Texas-Pan American 103-50.
Dontae Figgs scored 19 points to lead seven East Central players in double figures. Justin Wilkerson scored 17 and Ian Adams added 15 for East Central.
Dunn hit one of his four 3-pointers with 7:43 left in the second half to give Tech 130 points, breaking the record of 128 points scored by Texas Tech in a double overtime win against Texas on Feb. 20, 1994.
Texas Tech (3-0) led 77-57 at the half.
Tech took 113 shots on the night, while East Central took 94.
East Central (0-1) already scored more than 100 points in two of its exhibition games.
The 283 points scored in the game was also the most in school history for the Red Raiders.
