Texas pitcher Meagan Denny gets set to hurl a pitch during Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Texas State. The Longhorns left 12 runners on base.

With the bases loaded, freshman pinch-hitter Amy Hooks had a full count as she stepped up to the plate for her last at bat. In Texas' first meeting with Texas State at the beginning of the season, Hooks hit a three-run seventh-inning home run that clinched a Texas win. Unfortunately for the Longhorns, that was not the case in Wednesday night's rematch.

The Longhorns fell to the Bobcats 3-1 Wednesday night. In the bottom of the first inning, sophomore shortstop Loryn Johnson hit a single that brought junior first-baseman Desiree Williams home. Bobcat second-baseman Ryan Kos drove in two runs and pushed the Bobcats up 2-1.

The Bobcats really did not even have that many opportunities, but unlike the Longhorns, they took advantage of each one they got.

"Texas State took advantage of their opportunities and we didn't," head coach Connie Clark said. "They didn't have very many opportunities, but when they had the one, they took advantage of it. You have to credit them for that."

The one thing that the Longhorns could have done to have been more successful in this game would have been to capitalize on their opportunities.

"We didn't manufacture runs when we had them," Clark said. "Hopefully we'll capitalize [against Nebraska] and manufacture runs when we are in scoring position."

Clark also said that hitting coach Corrie Hill plans to work on the offense to make sure that they hit through the ball and not under it.

When the players went up to bat, the ball popped up on the inside pitches. The team did not execute on those pitches.
