The Austin Aztex finally broke through with their first ever road victory in United Soccer League play Friday night, but were brought back to Earth with a 4-1 loss to Rochester Sunday night.
After letting the three points slip away with a last minute equalizer on their last trip to Cleveland, a 2-2 draw, the Aztex held on for a 1-0 win this time around. A strike from Sullivan Silva, who also scored in the Aztex’s 3-0 win over the Stars in their first matchup at Nelson Field, provided the difference with a goal in the first half.
Austin withstood a second half barrage from the home side to escape with the three points.
However, they didn’t have long to celebrate that triumph, as the ever-demanding USL-1 schedule forced them back on the road against the Rochester Rhinos, one of the division’s perennial powerhouses. A goal-less first half gave way to a four-goal barrage from the home side. The Aztex’s lone reply came from English forward and top-scorer Eddie Johnson in the 84th minute.
Austin returns to action with a home date against the third placed Portland Timbers, before heading north for a visit to the Minnesota Thunder.
Through 16 games, the expansion Aztex have earned 15 points and sit in the eighth and final play-off spot in the USL standings.
