As a part of the Keep Austin Weird Festival, the USA Crit Series brought the fourth race of their cycling series to
Austin with the AT&T Downtown Austin Criterium. The Series held 12 races throughout Saturday between Guadalupe and Colorado streets. This year's event was the fourth year the Series traveled to Austin. Frank Travieso won the men's pro, and Austinite Jen McCrae took the women's pro, which was combined with the men's cat 3. The race USA Crit Series culminates in the World Criterium Championships in Las Vegas, NV, this September. A criterium, or crit, is a short course bicycle race where the riders make many laps in an allotted time. Texas Cycling helped sponsor the event along with Team Hotel San Jose. Texas participated during the event's morning races and entered three racers into the category three race, including Peter Carey. Carey led during the middle laps of the race but fell to the back of the pack near the end of the race.
