The top spot is virtually a toss-up between Oklahoma and Missouri, but the Sooners get the nod because of defense. Quarterback Sam Bradford seems to have avoided the sophomore slump. For the second-straight week, Bradford threw for five touchdowns and added a rushing score to his stat line this week for good measure.

The Tigers scored on their first 10 possessions against Nevada on their way to a 69-17 blowout. Quarterback Chase Daniel turned in another stellar performance with four touchdowns while managing to spread the wealth among his targets. Three Missouri receivers had more than 100 yards on the day, and a fourth recorded 98.

The Longhorns’ game with old Southwest Conference rival Arkansas was postponed until Sept. 27 due to Hurricane Ike. The rescheduling did not exactly do the ‘Horns any favors, as they will be forced to play on consecutive weekends from now through Nov. 15.

The Red Raiders clearly snapped out of their offensive funk from a week ago, racking up 693 yards of offense. Graham Harrell continued the trend of Big 12 quarterbacks with five touchdowns passing, and for the second week in a row, the defense made a significant contribution, recording five interceptions.

In a flashback to the days of Barry Sanders, the Cowboys pounded Missouri State for 450 yards rushing with three backs surpassing 130 yards on the day. Oklahoma State’s offensive attack, which attempted only seven passes in the game, was an uncommon sight in today’s trigger-happy Big 12 conference.

It was a tale of two halves for the Jayhawks against South Florida. After building a 20-3 lead late in the second quarter, Kansas surrendered 31 consecutive points. A late fourth-quarter rally to tie the game at 34 ended when Jayhawk quarterback Todd Reesing threw an interception leading to a South Florida field goal as time expired.

The Huskers turned in a performance that must have had fans reminiscing of days gone by, albeit against New Mexico State. Nebraska amassed 330 yards on the ground, even mixing in the occasional triple-option play. Quarterback Joe Ganz also recorded quite the hat trick with a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the game.

After impressive wins over inferior opponents to start the season, Louisville brought the Wildcats back down to Earth on Wednesday night. The Kansas State defense was shredded for 577 yards in the 38-29 loss, and the offense looked sluggish for much of the game before coming alive when the game was already out of hand.

The Bears may have finally found the quarterback to lead them out of the Big 12 basement. In only his second career start, freshman Robert Griffin ran for a school-record 217 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries and threw for a touchdown in a 45-17 rout of Washington State. We just need to see if it will translate to better opponents

After struggling against FCS opponent Eastern Washington, the Buffaloes will be thankful to have had a much-needed week off before facing No. 21 West Virginia on Thursday, which was not finished as of press time. Fortunately for Colorado, WVU also struggled in its last game, only managing three points in a loss to East Carolina.

After Hurricane Ike passed through southeast Texas this weekend, the Aggies are preparing for another storm as the Miami Hurricanes descend on Kyle Field on Saturday. Coach Mike Sherman has a decision to make at quarterback after Jerrod Johnson led Texas A&M to a victory over New Mexico when starter Stephen McGee left the game with an injury.

The Cylcones struggled to find their footing, both literally and figuratively, on the rain-soaked field against in-state rival Iowa. Two Cylcone drives sputtered inside the 5-yard line, and Iowa State committed three turnovers and missed three field goals in a 17-5 loss.
