- Junior Ricky Berens won a gold medal Wednesday as a part of the gold medal-winning 800-meter freestyle relay team that broke the world record. Teammate Dave Walters also won gold after swimming in the event's preliminary round. Berens teamed up with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay.
- Incoming junior transfer Scott Spann placed second in his heat and third overall in the 200-meter breaststroke, finishing in 2 minutes, 9.08 seconds.
- Kathleen Hersey, an incoming freshman, earned a berth in the finals of the 200-meter butterfly, finishing fourth in her heat and fifth overall in the semifinals Wednesday morning. Hersey, from Roswell, Ga., clocked a personal best, finishing in 2:06:96.
- UT volunteer assistant swimming coach Kirsty Coventry, who competes professionally, won her third silver medal at the Olympics, placing second in the 200-meter individual medley.
- Former Longhorn Aaron Peirsol placed second in the 200-meter backstroke preliminaries. Peirsol is looking for his second gold medal at the Olympics.
- Cat Osterman pitched a no-hitter as the U.S. defeated Australia in softball 3-0. Osterman struck out 13 batters and walked two.
