Only two weeks left until the nation decides who will be this year’s best college football player. If any of these quarterbacks has an off week, they might as well shut off all hopes of walking home with the trophy. With that said, here’s who we think should maybe start packing for New York. For now.
Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Although his numbers don’t reflect it, Tim Tebow is the most important player for the Gators. His 1,913 passing yards and 19 touchdowns have come at important stages of the game. He has been responsible for getting the Florida offense back on its feet just in time to make a run for the SEC Title and likely a national championship. Tebow kept his Heisman hopes alive by passing for 173 yards and throwing two touchdowns in the 56-6 drubbing of South Carolina last weekend.
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
The No. 2 Red Raiders will be hoping for Michael Crabtree to carry them past No. 5 Oklahoma this weekend. Crabtree’s 78 receptions have enabled him to score 18 touchdowns this season. Look for him to also take home the Biletnikoff award.
Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech
Graham Harrell has been the source of the majority of Texas Tech’s offense this season. His 4,077 passing yards and 36 touchdowns set him and his team apart from the offense driven teams of the Big 12. He has 332 completions to just five interceptions. The only thing standing between him and the Heisman Trophy at this point is his own receiver. If they beat the Sooners this weekend, it will surely be either him or Crabtree.
Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
The Sooners will be hoping for Sam Bradford to add some more big numbers to his CV this weekend. The sophomore QB will be a crucial factor when Oklahoma tries to counter Harrell’s offense this weekend. Bradford’s 38 touchdowns and 3,406 passing yards do help, but a win over the Red Raiders should put him over the top.
Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
As part of the complicated Big 12 South equation, the only simple thing about Texas’ season is that Colt McCoy is still one of the best players in the country. The junior has 3,134 passing and 527 rushing yards and leads his team in both categories.
He is one of the key reasons why Texas still has an outside chance of making it to the Big 12 Championship game. Still, if the Longhorns had beaten Texas Tech, McCoy would be a hands-down favorite right now.
