The Texas women's track and field team heads to Houston for the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic today and tomorrow at the Rice University Track Stadium.

Texas is ranked 12th to begin the outdoor season. Other top 25 squads in the Big 12 include Texas Tech and Kansas tied at No. 16 and Oklahoma sitting at No. 24. Texas A&M is also in the top five. A fourth place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships has provided the Longhorns momentum for the outdoor season.

Texas produced its first Midwest region qualifier last weekend at the Texas Invitational in Jordyn Brown. The sophomore shot putter threw 49 feet, 1 3/4 inches for a third-place finish to meet the qualifying mark of 46-11.

The Texas Invitational did not feature a full Longhorn team as some of the athletes had just competed in the Indoor Championships. Similarly, the Bayou Classic will primarily be a chance for Texas team members who have not competed since the close of the indoor season. These athletes will prepare and perfect technique before the Texas Relays next weekend.

The Horns will return to Austin after the Bayou Classic for the 81st annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The Relays take place April 2 to 5. More than 3,000 athletes and 20,000 fans flock annually to the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium for the event.
