According to Orangebloods.com, Mack Brown, who led the Longhorns to a national championship in 2005, will step down as Texas’ head coach after 16 seasons. The University would not confirm the news and denied that Brown would step down.

In a response to the report, Brown texted Horns 247 Bobby Burton, "I'm in Florida recruiting. If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here. I have not decided to step down."

Brown met over the weekend with new Texas athletic director Steve Patterson while both were in New York for a coaches' conference. Brown is currently on the road on a previously scheduled recruiting trip and isn't scheduled to return to Austin until Friday for the team's football banquet.

A decision about Brown's future would not likely come before Texas' board of regents meeting scheduled for Thursday morning. There, the future of Texas president Bill Powers will be discussed in a closed session.
