After dropping four of their last seven games, the No. 3 seeded Longhorns used a dominant 24-4 opening quarter to down Central Arkansas 78-50 at the Frank Erwin Center in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
It’s clear that the Longhorns aren’t playing with the same sense of urgency they showed during their historic 19-game win streak earlier in the season.
With the score within six, Brooke McCarty didn’t falter. In the biggest game of the season, the junior guard calmly knocked down a short jumper — prompting a run by Texas that would put the game away.
The Longhorns stood sparsely on the court, defending Baylor’s inbounds pass with 6.1 seconds to go Monday night in front of 7,103 fans at the Frank Erwin Center.
