As the PGA Tour returns to Austin for its annual stop, the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play has brought some familiar faces back with it. And some new ones as well. Tiger Woods, playing in his first Match Play event since 2013 and his first one in Austin since the tournament’s relocation in 2016, opened up his week with a 3 and 1 victory over Aaron Wise despite neither golfer playing well.

Winning in collegiate sports is usually reserved for one team per match, game or tournament. However, in a sport like golf, teams can walk away co-champions. That is exactly what happened with the No. 1 Texas women’s golf team this week in Hawaii.

Freshman Cole Hammer rallied back from seven shots behind the leader at the start of the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters to sneak into a sudden-death playoff with Jack Trent of UNLV.

Texas wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season Saturday at the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii. While the Longhorns’ performance was certainly worthy of an extended Hawaiian vacation, the season opener is just a small step toward the ultimate goal of a national championship.
