In a 21-page document released Monday, UT has outlined the expectations, duties and opportunities of the inaugural dean of the Dell Medical School, a position the University hopes to have filled by early 2014.
UT-Austin is set to open the Dell Medical School in 2016, with a first class of 50 students. A document, titled “Inaugural Dean — Dell Medical School Position Specification,” invites prospective employers to apply for the job while outlining what an applicant's qualifications must be.
Among other requirements, the document says applicants should be able to demonstrate a history of progressive and innovative leadership with exceptional recruiting talents. The applicant is also expected to have “management experience in the ‘business’ of medical schools.”
The application goes on to say that the medical school is expected to excel in research and yield significant economic returns.
“These are not mutually exclusive aspirations and will be pursued in parallel,” the document said.
The job posting also describes Austin, calling the city an “educational Mecca,” with “blue skies and many sunny days...highly valued by its residents.” And in the appendix, the document outlines the 18-member search committee, lists potential interdisciplinary collabrations with other UT schools and provides a proposed organizational chart for the medical school's administration.
Applicants interested in applying should email credentials to DellMedicalDean@wittkieffer.com. The search committee is expected to begin reviewing applicants in September.
