With football season quickly approaching, I am beginning to brainstorm ideas for fun snacks to bring to tailgates or TV-watching parties. It is a challenge because I want to make something that doesn’t require utensils, isn’t too messy and doesn’t include a plastic tray and hundreds of carrot sticks. Not that there’s anything wrong with carrot sticks.

After daydreaming about buffalo wings and cheese balls for a bit, I came to the conclusion that a lovely addition to any party would be a dip. Dip is versatile, quick and doesn’t require a stove. It travels with ease in the confines of its bowl, and the combinations of things that can be served with it are endless. Crispy potato chips, thinly sliced baguettes, crackers and celery sticks are just a few suggestions.

This avocado dip is simple, only requiring four main ingredients: avocado, sour cream, tomatoes and green onions. Blend it all together and you’ll have a refreshing crowd-pleaser that will be an excellent addition to any get-together. It can be eaten neatly for the most part, but if Texas scores a touchdown there are no guarantees that it won’t end up on the floor.
