Superhero mania has swept the nation with movies such as "Spiderman," "Batman Begins" and this summer's "X3: The Last Stand" and "Superman Returns" making their way to the silver screen. It seems none were spared, not even the United States Postal Service. The USPS has announced that it will be introducing a new set of stamps based on various superheroes.
The new 20-stamp panel features the likes of Superman, Batman, Aquaman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Supergirl, Plastic Man and Green Arrow. Ten of the stamps on the page will show each character in action while the other half will be past DC Comics covers.
The stamps will officially be released to the public on Thursday at a San Diego comic book show, and they will be available in post offices nationwide on Friday. The Postal Service has hinted at future collections of stamps to come after this initial set of 20, according to the Associated Press.
The superhero stamps are part of a larger effort of the USPS to create stamps with United States icons on them. Other collections released this year include American favorites like Harley-Davidson motorcycles, famous baseball players, the 2006 Olympic Winter Games and children's book animals. There will also be tributes to several people in American history, such as Hattie McDaniel, the first black actress to win an Academy Award, Benjamin Franklin and boxing legend Sugar Ray Robinson.
