DT Weekend: Who makes up Notes Floats?
Scott Walsh: Me. I’m a one-man band. I make the beats and rhymes, sometimes accompanied by a DJ.
DTW: When did you start making music?
SW: I’ve been writing rhymes since 1993 and making my own beats
since 1997.
DTW: What is your sound and style like?
SW: Original, boom bappin,’ jazzy and soulful. Cartoon-like at times.
DTW: Who are your influences?
SW: James Brown, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Native Tongues.
DTW: Why did you choose to make this type of music?
SW: I have been in to hip-hop music since second grade, heard it on the radio and was instantly hooked.
DTW: What are shows like for you?
SW: Relaxed and fun, skill level is high, and beats and rhymes are good, sound is bumpin’.
DTW: How much do you rehearse?
SW: Not much. Once I have the rhythms memorized, I don’t go over them too much to avoid sounding robotic.
DTW: What is your favorite song to play and perform?
SW: All my songs I do live are my favorites, songs I can see being on stage. The other songs stay on the record.
DTW: What direction do you hope to take your music in?
SW: All directions, every angle and sound in life, new ways!
DTW: What are your musical goals?
SW: To release my albums worldwide. I had one single, “It’s a Good Thing”, released worldwide on Melodic Records (UK). And to have my music, including instrumentals, in movies, commercials. I had my EP, Undescribable, on the MTV Music Catalog.
DTW: What should fans listen and watch for during your show at “Weird Woodstock”?
SW: Good music! Originality.
