Maybe it’s not your average Austin music fest, but it’s definitely one for the books.

Sixth Street’s Club Mixx, in partnership with The Breakfast Club Crew, is bringing “Austin’s Very Own Weird Woodstock” with over 40 musical acts to their stage. Mixx recently became a live music venue and coordinators hope to draw large and diverse crowds from all over the area to establish the event as an annual tradition. Look for the diversity in what the Austin area has to offer at the two-day event.

“The idea came as a collaboration of ideas from everyone involved,” said Arash Saberi, Mixx manager. “We’re not leaving anyone out. Austin is an eclectic town and a lot of the people have mixed music tastes.”

“Weird Woodstock” is aiming to cater to Austinites’ legendary and unique blend of musical tastes with performances of rock, rap, hip hop, electronica and everything in between.

If you’re into alternative rock, check out bands like Samantha Finlay and the Love Liberation Army playing their own sound with a twist of blues; The Salutation with a mix of rock, electro and hip hop elements; and Call it Epic, a group of straight-up alternative rockers.

For the misunderstood punks-at-heart comes emo punk band Something Called Nothing. Listen for “Fire” and fan favorite “Pointless Waiting.”

For the folk and indie rocker in all of us, check out the positive perspectives and peaceful music of Wake and Smile — laid-back tunes like “Relax.”

The funk and psychedelic scene will also be represented at Mixx with bands like Evoleno. The band brings “psychedelic, organic, funky reggae and jam” beats to listeners. Be sure to listen for “Caught Up,” a mixture of funky guitar sounds and a bluesy melody. Still not satisfied? Try Sarah Flo’s interpretation of electronica mixed with pop and groove elements.

Or maybe you’re looking to get away from the rock scene? How about hitting up Team Next, a rap and hip-hop foursome of Austin natives. The group’s bio brags that the team will be bringing “swag, passion, charisma, individuality, freedom, stardom, poverty, knowledge, conflict, unity, philosophy, loyalty, royalty and a lot of purple” to the stage.

This weekend, peel your friends off the couch and take them down to Club Mixx for indoor and outdoor performances across every genre — even your snobby music friends are bound to hear something they like.
