Australian import Porcelain combines rock, pop, grunge and classical into a hybrid genre. The band's recent performance at Darwin's Pub displayed their musicianship and stage presence.

There are times when you hear a band and have the so-called "Almost Famous" moment, the moment when you want to drop everything, kiss your mom goodbye, and hop on their tour bus to learn everything you can about them. In today's gloomy music industry, Porcelain provides such a ray of hope and inspiration.

The Australian import provides an energy and craftsmanship rarely seen in the modern indie scene. Led by vocalist Lo Roberts (a talented cross between Pat Benatar and Melissa Etheridge), Porcelain combines rock, pop, grunge and a little classical into a new hybrid genre. With the addition of classically trained violinist Asha Mevlana and her seven-string Viper Violin, Porcelain lays the ground work for a unique sound and the birth of a new genre.

The band's love of music and their fans shows during their performance. During a recent show at the Sixth Street staple Darwin's Pub, it was easy to see how hard they work on their musicianship and stage presence. The performance was tailored to entertain everyone from the 18-year-old looking through the window all the way to the record exec sitting in the corner. The energy level in Darwin's was electric with Porcelain on the stage.

As soon as lead guitarist Ben Richards went into "Slashmode," everyone was on their feet. Add in Blake Paulson's awesome drumming, and you had a near religious movement. While taking shots (aka "Texas Applause") with their fans between songs, Porcelain managed to cover the gamut of musical disciplines. From the smooth ballad "Again" to the in-your-face rock track "Fuck The Radio," Porcelain brought the heat, all the while setting the audience up for one of the best "Cochise" covers ever.

Porcelain is currently touring all over Texas and California in addition to recording their soon-to-be-released album Freedom and Release on Universal Records. Samples of their music can be found at
