A group of advocates launched the Good Judges Matter campaign Wednesday to encourage Texan voters to make informed decisions in judicial contests.

The campaign, sponsored by Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, includes online resources, radio advertising and brochures.

"From schools to the environment to health care, our judges make decisions that can impact our daily lives, yet almost half a million voters didn't cast ballots in the Supreme Court race," said Mike Hachtman, a board member of Texans Against Lawsuit Abuse.

A survey conducted by Baselice and Associates shows that Texan voters do not follow judicial contests in elections because they do not know about the candidates. It also showed that 30 percent of Texans do not vote in the contests.

"Electing good judges who have the background and qualifications to serve is critical to our state," said Roger Borgelt, board of directors member for Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse of Central Texas.
