The City Tour for Solar, a solar energy advocacy group, chose Zilker Park’s polo fields Monday for their interactive pavilion advocating cities increasing the use of solar panels.
“This tour is promoting that solar can power a city while at the same time promoting green jobs,” said tour team leader Noralinda Ureste.
The group is traveling to 50 cities in 100 days to share information on the viability of solar power.
The organization estimates that if the Austin Convention Center was covered in solar panels, 272 homes could be powered.
“People are really excited and enthusiastic about solar, but they understand there are obstacles,” Ureste said. “They need to let their elected officials know that they want solar power now.”
