All Hallow’s Eve Freak Show
Halloween is the one time of the year where it is acceptable, and often highly encouraged, to wave your freak flag. Club Mixx is starting a night early with their All Hallow’s Eve Freak Show, featuring a costume contest, a photobooth and bands and DJs like Butcher Bear & Charlie and Vice Device.

Why Do the Dead Come Back?
Take a post-Halloween, educational breather at the Mexic-Arte Museum lecture that explores the origins of the Day of the Dead and regional diversity in Mesoamerica. Speakers include UT professor Enrique Rodríguez-Alegrí, UT student Amber O’Connor and local journalist Claudia Alarcón.

Shuck Shack’s Halloween Pet Costume Contest
Amid the horror and gore of Halloween is one costume contest that is much cuter and cuddlier than the rest. Local oyster restaurant, the Shuck Shack, is hosting a pet costume contest benefit for Emancipet, a no-kill and spay and neuter advocacy group.

Thrills, Chills, Haunts and Jolts at Jo’s South Congress
Have a cappuccino with a dash of horror at local coffee shop Jo’s. Partake in costume contests and games while listening to performances by Wino Vino, Wax Museum Pandemonium and more. Proceeds benefit Urban Roots, a nonprofit youth program that helps establish sustainable agriculture in East Austin communities.

Zombie Prom
Zombies have always been a common costume during Halloween, but South Lamar’s newest edition is hoping to assemble the undead at a dance reminiscent of high school. The Highball — bowling alley, karaoke, and skee ball joint — will provide the sustenance: ‘human brains,’ music and a dance floor. All that’s required is an infectious costume.

White Ghost Shivers’ Halloween Ball of Fantasy
Austin band White Ghost Shivers is hosting their annual Halloween Ball of Fantasy. Listen to the fiddle-filled jazz group as they share the stage with Clyde and Clem’s Whiskey Business, Fortunes and Fantasy, and The McMercy Family.

Dismember the alamo at the alamo drafthouse lake creek
The Alamo Drafthouse is featuring three nights of films that feast on the fear of the walking dead. Watch zombie cult-classics like “Night of the Comet” and the best selections of amateur submissions for their short film competition.
