Belting out “you’re a zero; what’s your name?,” Karen O. gets the point across — don’t mess with this indie rocker.
Fans can expect an exciting show on Friday at Austin City Limits. Lead singer Karen O. is known for her outrageous on-stage concert style and for letting out a few screams here and there. Drummer Brian Chase may appear to be an innocent, low-key kind of guy, but as soon as he sets foot on stage, he immediately morphs into an insane rocker, banging on the drums with passion and force. Alternatively, Nick Zinner, the band’s guitarist, encompasses the ideal rocker look with his crazy jet black hair and skinny frame.
The trio have released three albums, all of which have received strong, positive reviews. Their most well-known song by far is “Maps,” which appears on the popular video game “Rock Band” and pertains to the former relationship between Karen O. and Liars’ frontman Angus Andrew.
Their new album, It’s Blitz, is a change in style for the usually garage punk-sounding band. A majority of the songs have electronic disco undertones which makes the album much more danceable than their previous two records. The attention to detail that went into the making of the album is apparent in the emotional shifts in the record. The first song, “Zero,” is a quick-paced, belt-it-out kind of tune, but as the album progresses, slower beats like that in “Soft Shock and Skeletons” prove that the band can be quite the musical chameleon.
Austin better be getting ready for an ultimate dance party this weekend with Karen O. singing
“dance till your dead; heads will roll, heads will roll on the floor!”
