It seems that more and more filmmakers are flocking to Texas to shoot their latest blockbusters. Last fall, Terrence Mallick filmed his latest project in Austin with big-name stars such as Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, and Rooney Mara. Currently, Parkland, a film produced by Tom Hanks, is being filmed on the UT campus. According to IMDb, Parkland is ‘a recounting of the chaotic events that occurred at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital on the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.’ I happened to stumble upon a filming location when riding my bike home from class, and I was lucky enough to have my camera gear with me. After quickly ditching my bike and switching lenses, I was able to get in front of the crowd of spectators and take a few photos before the crew wrapped up the scene and went inside to finish shooting. It’s not everyday you get to be less than 10 feet away from Paul Giamatti. Keep your eyes peeled around campus and Austin because you might just see him too (or even Zac Efron).
