Governor Greg Abbott appointed 10 student regents Thursday to their respective universities for terms until May 31, 2016 and a student representative for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Abbott appointed Justin Drake to represent the University of Texas System. Drake is a doctoral student in biochemistry and molecular biology at the UT Medical Branch at Galveston.
Drake will participate with the board of regents, but holds a non-voting position during his one-year term. He was one of five finalists selected by UT System Chancellor William McRaven.
Drake said in a March interview with the Daily Texan his goals include improving online education initiatives in the UT System, increasing collaboration between UT branches and placing focus on learning professional skills.
