Saturday’s temperature could get all the way up to 94 degrees — so if you’re going to be walking around in a heavy set of robes, be sure to bring a water bottle or two. It is also expected to be a gusty day, according to the National Weather Service, so be sure to hold on tight to those decorative commencement caps.
What is happening today: If you don’t need to be on campus today, then don’t be on campus. The second day of graduation is taking place, so UT will be packed. Some people said they spent 45 minutes yesterday waiting outside of the Frank Erwin Center for their ride to pick them up. There is also going to be some road closures happening as a result of commencement. They are listed below:
- 21st Street will be closed from Whitis Avenue to Speedway from 5 p.m. to midnight.
- University Avenue will be closed from 21st Street to 20th Street from 7 a.m. to midnight
- 20th Street will be closed from University Avenue till the end of the street from 7 a.m. to midnight.
Yesterday’s most read story online: The Daily Texan is spending 13 hours with the Class of 2013. Check out the first day and the first nine hours of coverage.
What you have to read: The Daily Texan has put together a short, handy guide to survive graduation. Here is everything you need to know to get through graduation.
In case you missed it: Graduation isn’t just serious business — it is also a lot of fun. Check out this ten decorated commencement caps, and share with us your awesome cap on twitter. Do you think you can beat a Harry Potter-themed cap? What about a cap with a boat on it? Yeah, didn’t think so.
Graduation caps aren't just for throwing in the air — they're also for bejeweling and bedazzling. Some students like to go out with class, but other students are going out with style. Check out these ten phenomenally designed and decorated commencement caps:
10. The "Harry Potter" cap, from Isaac Gomez on Twitter. Only true members of Dumbledore's Army would show their fandom loyalty at graduation:

9. The "What the rest of my life will look like" cap, from Cody Permaneter on Twitter. Cody may have just graduated, but he already knows what he's doing for a career:

8. The "Thank you" cap. Victoria Vish used her cap to pay tribute to her parents' support:

7. The "bejeweled" cap: With her shinning cap, you will not be able to miss Kailin Miner in the crowd. Photo courtesy of Miner on Twitter.

6. The "Bevo" cap: UT's mascot doesn't just graze on grass — he also grazes on caps. Photo courtesy of the University Co-Op on Twitter.

5., 4. and 3. The "Glittering" caps: These three caps shine above the other, undecorated caps (literally.)

2. The "Meme" cap: This cap is representative of what everyone really does in college — procrastinate on the internet.

UPDATE (7:50 a.m.): The second day of individual commencement ceremonies starts today at 8 a.m., and will continue till the main ceremony at the Tower at 8 p.m.
Families, friends and graduates will swarm the campus today, which means campus is going to be busy. Here is everything you need to know in order to survive the day:
- Do not bring bags to campus today. If they are bigger than 12 inches in any dimension, you will be turned away. Small bags are subject to being searched, which can result in delays. The University has increased its safety procedures at graduation this year following recent national events.
- You should know when and where your ceremony is taking place. The University made a Spring 2013 Commencement website.
- Parking is bound to be tricky with so many people coming to campus today. And it's easy to park in the wrong spot. So wherever you park, look for signs. This way, you can avoid getting a ticket. The University has designated all 'C' campus lots for commencement parking. Also, the following parking garages can be used as well: San Jacinto garage, San Antonio garage (for ceremonies in Hogg Memorial Auditorium), Brazos garage (for ceremonies in Gregory Gym), Twenty-Seventh Street garage, Manor garage (for ceremonies in the Performing Arts Center), Speedaway garage and Trinity garage (for ceremonies in the Frank Erwin Center.) Click here for more information on parking.
- There are a few road closures going on as a result of graduation on Saturday. They are listed below:
- Tweet your photos and stories about graduation @thedailytexan with the hashtag #UTgrad. We want to share your stories. You can also email them to news@dailytexanonline.com. The Daily Texan's print news editor Jody Serrano will be covering the event, you can interact with her on twitter @jodyserrano.
