Texas women's golf to compete in Jim West Invitational

The women’s golf team travels to Boerne for its second tournament of the year.

The team will compete in the Jim West Invitational Sunday through Tuesday for a total of 54 holes. Thirteen schools will compete at Tapatio Springs Golf Course hosted by Texas State.

Texas State head coach Michael Akers said the field will be competitive.

“The event literally filled up in less than 24 hours,” Akers said.

Texas Tech and OU are the only other Big 12 Conference schools competing in the tournament.

This will be Texas’ first year competing in the Jim West Invitational. Last year’s champion, Texas A&M, will look to defend its title.

The Longhorns finished tenth  on Sept. 15 in Minnesota.

“The goal now is simply to improve,” Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said.

Freshman Maddie Luitwieler, sophomore Sophia Schubert, juniors Julia Beck and Haley Mills, and senior Tezira Abe will represent the Longhorns this weekend. Junior Anne Hakula will compete as an individual.
