Texas to face Oregon State in the Valero Alamo Bowl


No. 23 Texas will play No. 13 Oregon State in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 at 5:45 pm at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The Longhorns were ranked No. 23 in the BCS standings released, along with No. 5 Kansas State and No. 11 Oklahoma as the only Big 12 teams still ranked in the BCS. The Longhorns played in the Alamo Bowl only once before, a 26-24 victory over Iowa in 2006.

The Beavers are 9-3 on the season with a 6-3 Pac-12 conference record. The Longhorns have a 2-0 series record against the Beavers, both victories came at home in Austin. The two teams last met in 1987 which resulted in a 61-16 Longhorn victory.

"We are excited about the opportunity to play in the Alamo Bowl against a very talented Oregon State team," said head coach Mack Brown.

When the two teams meet on the field, senior defensive end Alex Okafor will be playing against former Pflugerville High School teammate Storm Woods a red-shirt freshman running back for Oregon State.
