Texas isn’t new to facing elimination this postseason, but the College World Series bracket format does afford the Longhorns with something they haven’t had their previous tournaments — a day off between games.

Texas took an early lead on Florida, but pitcher Taylor Jungmann couldn’t find his rhythm as the Gators rallied to beat Texas 8-4 Saturday at TD Ameritrade Park in the Longhorns' opener at the College World Series. 

He still messes around a little in the bullpen — just bouncing off walls to stay energized — but gets focused and more serious once it’s time to pitch.

The Texas bullpen threw five scoreless innings and allowed only two batters en route to shutting down the Sun Devils and securing a trip to the College World Series.

The Longhorns staved off elimination yet again Saturday night with their 5-1 win over Arizona State in the Austin Super Regional.

The Longhorns live to see another day. Texas won twice on Sunday, forcing an elimination game tonight with Kent State in the Austin Regional.

If there is such a thing as a trap game in college baseball, Texas’ series against Nebraska this weekend would be the perfectexample of one.

Texas failed to close out the sweep of Oklahoma on Sunday, falling 5-2 to the Sooners at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Tant Shepherd hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Cohl Walla added another run in the ninth with a RBI single, but it was too little, too late for the Longhorns.

Texas was unable to complete the sweep this weekend against Kansas and fell 4-2 in the final game on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan. Sam Stafford started for Texas and picked up his first loss of the season.

Tuesday can be a slow day for Texas at Disch-Falk Field. The competition isn’t as tough as the weekend series’ and the crowds aren’t as big, which can put the Longhorns in a fog. Players have admitted that they’ve had trouble this season with their excitement level on Tuesdays, and coaches realize it can be a problem.

Texas is a team built on defense and pitching, and the Longhorns showcased both Tuesday against Dallas Baptist.

Texas wanted to avoid a slump after its four-run ninth inning rally fell short on Saturday in Waco. The Longhorns did just that Sunday, beating Baylor 5-2 at Disch-Falk Field to take the series 2-1.

Texas used a five-run first inning and eight innings from Cole Green to beat Missouri 10-1 Sunday and sweep the Tigers on the weekend. 

The Texas bullpen came back Tuesday night and bailed out a struggling offense with five shutout innings en route to a 2-1 win over visiting Oral Roberts.

The run-rule game against Houston Baptist was a far cry from the two extra-inning games Texas won last weekend against Kansas State.

The Longhorns began conference play with a win Friday, as they topped Kansas State 3-0 at Disch-Falk Field. Taylor Jungmann pitched eight innings for his fifth win of the season and Corey Knebel picked up his fifth save.

Corey Knebel pitched the final two innings for Texas and recorded his second save of the weekend as Texas beat Stanford 4-2 to take the series two games to one.

He wanted to ignite a spark in his team and make sure it didn’t come out sluggish like the day before, when the Longhorns lost 10-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Radio broadcaster Keith Moreland, who captained the 1975 national championship baseball team and has been the voice of Texas baseball and football since 1996, will serve in the same capacity for the Chicago Cubs.

Jerry Gray was supposed to be a perfect fit for Texas as its new defensive backs coach. But the lure of a promotion and a pay raise was too tempting to keep him at his alma mater, and Gray accepted the defensive coordinator position for the Tennessee Titans on Saturday. 

For Huston Street, alumni weekend at Texas is what it’s all about. It offers a chance to reminisce with former coaches and teammates, trading the crack of wooden bats for the ping of aluminum ones and running burnt orange base paths. You can almost smell the nostalgia seeping from the dugout.

Texas is back in the NCAA tournament after a one-year hiatus and will face James Madison in the opening round on Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Texas was able to get away from Friday’s match with No. 6 Texas A&M with a tie, but the Longhorns will take much more than that going into Wednesday’s Big 12 tournament. The team showed once again it can play well against anyone in the country, and it’ll try to ride that confidence going into the tournament.

Oklahoma ended Texas’ 13-game undefeated streak at home Sunday when the Sooners upended the Longhorns 2-1 in double overtime.

  While many of you were using the football team’s bye week to soak in the sun and music in Zilker Park, one group of Longhorns did bypass the hippie-laden field for one painted in burnt orange. Texas women’s soccer netted its much-needed first conference win of the season, beating Baylor 1-0 on Sunday. Texas has beaten No. 8 BYU, UW-Milwaukee and William & Mary this year, but the win over the Bears on Sunday was its biggest win of the season.
