The class of 2011 has seen some great moments in Texas sports during the four years that most students take to graduate. From the Hunter Lawrence kick heard around the nation to 45-35, there have been great games and memories that the students will remember for a long, long time.

Here are a few letters that somehow made their way to my mailbox. Surprisingly, all the opinions from these readers are very similar to mine.

Maybe college football is right. Maybe the BCS is the way to determine a champion.

You’ve got to feel bad for Gary Johnson.

Cory Joseph looked like he had just got out of a 12-round title fight. In the locker room, bandages of all different shapes and sizes were out. Icepacks were near. And a trainer was tending to him.

Whether the Longhorns deserve to be a four seed or not, there is nothing they can do about it.

Whether they like it or not, it is possible that when the rankings come out today, the Longhorns will be the No. 1 team in the nation after Ohio State fell to Wisconsin on Saturday.

Texas began the season outside The Associated Press Top 25. The Longhorns were picked to finish third in the Big 12 preseason poll. 

The best place to start when holding a team below its scoring average: the best player.

Check Stillwater off as another tough road environment in which Texas thrived.

Texas likely had its greatest regular season win in school history Saturday.

When this week’s two college basketball polls were released, the voters had a tough time distinguishing between the No. 10 and No. 11 ranked teams. The AP voters had the Longhorns 10th and the Aggies right behind them at 11th. The Coaches had it switched around.

When we return to school on Jan. 17, we will have a lot better picture of what Texas is capable of. Six weeks from now, Longhorn fans may start circling their calendars for an early April Final Four in Houston, or they may start peeking ahead to the Sept. 3 football game against Rice.

The ball clanking off the rim, the referee’s whistle and the thump of bodies hitting the floor were the most notable noises that echoed throughout the Frank Erwin Center on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh’s Travon Woodall’s missed free throw with 12 seconds remaining was exactly what the Longhorns needed.

Texas scored on its first four possessions early in overtime to go up eight and gain a lead that they would not let go in beating No. 16 Illinois 90-84 on Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

Cory Joseph doesn’t get tired. He can play all night. On Wednesday, he did.

Upon seeing Cory Joseph for the first time, Tristan Thompson noticed three things. “This is a curly haired guy with big ears,” Thompson recalls. “But he can shoot.”

En route to beating the Cornhuskers 20-13 on Saturday, the Longhorns avoided making the major mistakes that doomed them in their previous two games in which they combined for seven turnovers and 17 penalties. 

We have all had our week to gripe about the Longhorns.

The Longhorns have not gotten past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since Goestenkors has arrived and have not advanced to the second round in the past two years.
