Junior Beau Hossler fired back-to-back 68s, and sophomore Doug Ghim carded a season-low 67 and 72 to carry the No. 1 Texas men’s golf team on day one of the 3M Augusta Invitational.

After 36 holes, the Longhorns sit in a tie for second with No. 2 Illinois at 15-under par, three shots behind the leader, Augusta University.

Hossler, the No. 1-ranked player in the country, finds himself in a familiar position, leading yet again in a golf tournament. The strong performance in the first two rounds by Hossler gives him a one-shot lead at 8-under. He’ll go for his fifth win of the season in Sunday’s final round. Ghim sits in a tie for sixth at 5-under.

Junior Gavin Hall and redshirt sophomore Taylor Funk each finished the day at 1-under and in a tie for 21st. Hall posted rounds of 71 and 72, and Funk shot rounds of 70 and 73. Sophomore Scottie Scheffler sits in a tie for 53rd at 5-over after carding rounds of 76 and 73.

Texas will look to gain its fifth victory of the season Sunday.
