Women's golf tied for 10th in Las Vegas collegiate showdown

Women’s golf ended the first day of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown tied with Colorado State for 10th place . Texas was paired with San Diego State and Tennessee.

Sophomore Sophia Schubert led the team with four birdies and one bogey to shoot a three under par-69 and is currently in the top 20. Senior Tezira Abe is currently tied for 25th with a round of 70. Junior Julia Beck bounced back with six birdies after a rough start and is also tied for 25th.

Freshman Maddie Luitwieler and junior Haley Mills couldn’t seem to find their swing on the course. The pair finished two over par and three over par, respectively. The Longhorns have two more days to improve their score.

The leaderboard is stacked with top teams and players. Michigan and San Jose State lead the pack at 13-under par, with Missouri two strokes back. San Jose State’s My Leander is currently leading all players at seven under par. Leander’s teammate Elizabeth Schultz is one stroke behind her in second place.

Texas will compete alongside Colorado State and Long Beach State for the second day of the tournament. Tee times are set for a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Monday.
