About 10 years ago, singer-songwriter Dana Falconberry left her hometown in Michigan and moved to Austin to focus on her music career.
Since her start in 2006, Falconberry has become part of a six-piece band, released four albums, was featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk series and performed at Austin City Limits Music Festival.
“Somebody on tour once called us avant folk, and I really liked that description,” Falconberry said. “We play kind of weird songs with long, meandering structures, so we can get pretty loud sometimes and pretty quiet.”
Falconberry’s most recent release, Leelanau, in 2012 was inspired by her childhood trips to Leelanau, Florida. In February 2016, Falconberry will release her next album with Modern Outsider Records.
She is currently working on a split release with the members of Austin-based band Some Say Leland, which is set to release this September.
“We’re combining our bands to create one super band,” Falconberry said. “My friends who make music here in town are really inspirational to me.”
