Capital of Texas Power Wrestling, a semi-professional wrestling league in Austin, is looking for talent.

Interested persons of at least 16 years of age have the chance to become wrestlers, managers, referees, or, if they choose not to be part of the fighting, valets or escorts in the growing league.

John "J.P." Peterson, a lighting and music technician for CTPW, said the league is similar to national leagues like WCW and WWE, but that CPTW offers experiences those leagues can't.

"The fans are a much larger part of our show than any other," Peterson said. "People bring signs and stuff, but they also are sometimes encouraged to bring weapons for the wrestlers to fight with."

Peterson said golf clubs, frying pans, bats and even car mufflers are used during bouts.

The characters who make up the league fall into five categories. Heavyweights weigh in at 215 pounds or more. The Cruiser-weights are below them. TV-class fighters' bouts will be aired on Austin cable channel 16 beginning two weeks from Friday. The Hardcore class engages in more no-holds-barred-style fights, jumping from ladders and smashing opponents into tables. There is also a women's class, which Peterson would like to see grow.

"We are trying to gain more women fighters and a larger female fan base," Peterson said. "Cherry Pie, Miss Venus, Heather Divine and the other girls are always looking for new competition."

Mr. B, a wrestler and self-proclaimed "mouth" of CTPW who refers to himself in the third person, issued a challenge to potential female wrestlers.

"The ring is Mr. B's ring," he said. "Any woman who wants to compete in this ring needs to first get through Mr. B."

There will be two exhibitions this weekend: Friday at Bastrop Middle School and Saturday at Del Valley High School. Price of admission ranges from $4 to $5, and both events should begin at 7 p.m.

People interested in joining the league can get information at either of the events, or at CTPW's Web site: www.ctpw.net.

Mr. B said he hopes a large crowd turns out this weekend.

"It doesn't matter to Mr. B if the crowd loves him or hates him," he said. "If you are booing or if you are cheering, Mr. B knows he is the best."
