Actor/comedian Brian Posehn, best known for his roles in "Just Shoot Me!" and "The Sarah Silverman Program," is on tour promoting the release of his latest album, Live in: Nerd Rage, and will be performing in Austin tonight through Saturday.

Brian Posehn's hobbies, as he lists in his album Live in: Nerd Rage, are: "I play Halo, I smoke pot, I masturbate and I cry." All are time-intensive, which makes it all the more surprising that Posehn has quite a lot going on. He just wrapped up the second half of "The Sarah Silverman Program," is currently pitching his comic book "The Last Christmas" - about "Santa in the apocalypse" - and is currently on tour. Though his profile has increased significantly since the release of Rage, Posehn has been a towering (the dude is 6 feet 6 inches tall) presence in TV since the mid-'90s. Many folks may have recognized him as the mail clerk from "Just Shoot Me," while the cool kids knew him as a writer and performer on HBO's cult classic "Mr. Show." While he enjoyed working on "Mr. Show," it left him with a less positive view of writing for TV.

"We were allowed to do anything we wanted, and it just kind of spoiled it for me," Posehn said.

If one thing will never spoil for him, though, it's his love of metal. Perhaps as retaliation for Bill Hicks' attack on Judas Priest, Posehn talks openly about his love for the genre. In the midst of his rants about "Star Wars," riot footage and discussing the agony of getting your testicles torn off, the metal remains a small part of his act.

"I don't just talk about it, because I feel like that would alienate everyone else," Posehn said.

That doesn't mean Posehn is ignorant of marketing to metalheads. Relapse, one of the larger underground metal labels, released Rage.

"I was sort of following my other friends - guys like David Cross and Patton [Oswalt] - that went to indie record labels like Sub Pop to do theirs," he said. "That's what they listen to and they felt like their fans also buy those records."

Posehn said he originally wanted to be a journalist, but an intimidating interview with Fishbone influenced his switch to comedy.

Posehn will be at the Cap City Comedy club tonight through Saturday.
